Srinivasa Rao was a freedom fighter and also fought for the cause of farm labourers. He was the architect of the communist movement in East Thanjavur district.
He was born on 10th April 1907 in the State of Karnataka, being filled with the passion for freedom he quit his college studies and joined the freedom movement.
He participated in Salt Satyagraha, Individual Satyagraha led by Gandhiji in 1930 and was one among the leaders who picketed against the sale of foreign clothes.
He fought for the rights of Dalits, though he was a Brahmin, because of his strong belief in communism.
He was able to grasp the socio economic situation in East Thanjavur and dedicated himself to mobilizing the oppressed people against caste and feudal oppression and also against the colonial rulers.
He breathed his last on 29th September 1961 while he was leading the struggle for land reform by agricultural labourers.
Thyagi Seenivasa Rao memorial was constructed at a cost of Rs.25 lakh and inaugurated on 14.11.2009 in Thiruvarur district.
