Thyagi Viswanathadas was born to Subramania Pandithar – Gnammal on 16th June 1886. He lived in Door No.56, Viswanathadoss Street, Thirumangalam, Madurai district. His wife is Shanmuga thai. He had three sons Subramania doss, Kasinathan, Muthiah doss and two daughters – Pitchaiammal, Thanga thai.
Thyagi Viswanathadas used drama as an effective tool to create awareness among the natives during the freedom struggle and played a significant role in arousing the patriotic fervour amongst the people. Thyagi Viswanathadas, A strong supporter of Nethaji Subash Chandra Bose actively participated in freedom struggle along with pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar and Jeevanantham, When Nethaji visited Tamil Nadu. In the year 1930, Nethaji founded youth society. He took tireless efforts to create awareness among people through this society.
Given his dedication and passion for the stage and the freedom movement, He breathed his last singing a patriotic song in high pitch during a performance of “Valli Thirumanam” on 31.12.1940 at the age of 55.
The Birth Anniversary of Thyagi Viswanathadas is celebrated annually by the Government of Tamil Nadu on 16th June in Thirumangalam, Madurai District.
