Adhiyaman Neduman Anchi was one of the most powerful Tamil Velir kings of the sangam era. He ruled over Tagadur.
The Bravery and Patronage of Anchi was the theme found in the songs of poets including Avaiyar. He was a King with strong physique and won battles against seven kings including Chera, Chozha and Pandiya. Once Adhiyaman got a rare variety of a gooseberry (Nellikani). The king came to know that the fruit had the power to extend one’s life. He immediately chose to offer it to Avaiyaar.
“Oh, Wise Lady! Thousands of kings come and go, but the wisdom of a Poet like you is more precious to earth than the valour of an ordinary king like me,” said the great philanthropist, offering the fruit to the grand old lady of Tamil Literature.
Anchi conquered Thirukovilur the capital of Malaiyaman Thirumudi Kari after waging war against Kari. Chera king, Peruncheral Irumporai waged war against Adhiyaman. King Choza and Pandiya supported Adhiyaman. But Adiyaman lost the battle and died in the war.
Vallal Adhiyaman Kottam constructed at a cost of Rs.115 lakh in Adhiyaman Kottai Village, Dharmapuri District was inaugurated in 28.02.2009.
